Over 160,000 Ethiopians secure legal employment abroad in five months

Addis Ababa, December 20, 2024 (FMC) – The Ministry of Labor and Skills has revealed that more than 160,000 Ethiopian citizens have secured legal job opportunities in various foreign nations over the past five months.

State Minister of Labor and Skills, Solomon Soka, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to facilitating safe overseas employment for citizens while safeguarding their rights and dignity through bilateral agreements with several countries.

Solomon explained that the ministry is actively seeking foreign job markets, determining suitable destination countries, and establishing agreements to ensure citizens’ access to legal employment opportunities. Additionally, he noted that training programs are being implemented to equip citizens with the skills needed to meet the demands of international job markets.

The Ethiopian Labor Market Information System has also been instrumental in providing citizens with job identification numbers and necessary training, thereby promoting a more transparent employment process.

The minister highlighted that foreign employment initiatives are being conducted through bilateral agreements with six countries and various organizations, resulting in over 160,000 citizens finding employment abroad in the current fiscal year. He urged citizens to adhere to the legal framework for foreign employment to protect their rights and safety.
