AUC Deputy Chairperson emphasizes importance of partnership with EU in advancing Africa’s interest
Addis Ababa, April 5, 2025 (FMC) — The African Union Commission (AUC) Deputy Chairperson, Selma Malika Haddadi, joined the diplomatic corps to celebrate Europe Day, emphasizing the importance of the AU-EU partnership in advancing Africa’s developmental aspirations.
Speaking at the event, Haddadi noted that as Africa progresses toward its Agenda 2063 goals, the African Union deeply values partners who recognize and support the continent’s own priorities and development trajectory.
“For 25 years, the AU and the EU have stood together in addressing global challenges, fostering economic growth, and promoting stability across our continents. This partnership has evolved into a model of intercontinental cooperation, demonstrating what can be accomplished when Africa and Europe work together,” she stated.
She underscored that in times of geopolitical uncertainty and challenges to multilateralism, strengthened cooperation between Africa and Europe is more crucial than ever.
As Africa advances its Agenda 2063 aspirations, the Deputy Chairperson African Union appreciates partners who recognize and support our continent’s own defined priorities and development trajectory.
Reflecting on the outcomes of the recent AU-EU Summit, the Deputy Chairperson highlighted four key priority areas to guide future collaboration including, building a prosperous and sustainable Africa and Europe, renewing commitment to peace and security, enhancing partnership on migration and mobility, and reaffirming a firm commitment to multilateralism.
Haddadi also called for concrete action to translate these shared priorities into tangible progress for both continents.
