President Taye holds talks with UNOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira da Silva

Addis Ababa, April 17, 2025 (FMC) — President Taye Atske-Selassie held talks on Thursday with Jorge Moreira da Silva, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), at the Presidential Office in Addis Ababa.

On the occasion, both sides discussed on the implementation of the diverse projects in Ethiopia ranging from basic services including education, health, water and sanitation; recovery programs and institutional capacity building.

During the meeting, President Taye called on UNOPS to support Ethiopia’s institutional capacity by engaging in capacity-building efforts related to the government’s procurement processes.

He also encouraged the agency to involve Ethiopian suppliers in the implementation of its projects across Africa.

The President further urged UNOPS to strengthen its operational presence in Ethiopia.

Executive Director Moreira da Silva, for his part, described the discussion as productive and reaffirmed UNOPS’ readiness in deepening its collaboration with the Ethiopian government.
