Ethiopia invites BRICS states, partners to seize expanding agricultural investment opportunities

Addis Ababa, April 18, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia has called on BRICS member states to take advantage of the country’s growing agricultural investment opportunities, reaffirming its openness to deeper international cooperation in transforming the sector.

Speaking at the BRICS Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture held on April 17 in Brasilia, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Brazil, Leulseged Tadese, outlined Ethiopia’s comprehensive agricultural programs that are reshaping the sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

He highlighted landmark initiatives such as the National Wheat Harvest, the Green Legacy Initiative, Yelemat Tirufat, cluster farming, land restoration, and large-scale irrigation as part of a broader strategy to achieve food security and food sovereignty.

Ambassador Leulseged emphasized that Ethiopia’s successes demonstrate how strong political commitment and well-coordinated policies can drive sustainable agricultural transformation across Africa.

He stressed the importance of scaling these achievements through partnerships with BRICS countries, especially in areas like technology transfer, knowledge sharing, and experience exchange.

The Ambassador also encouraged the BRICS business community to explore Ethiopia’s vast and underutilized agricultural potential, noting that the country is ready to facilitate investment and cooperation that support mutual development goals.

The ministerial meeting was preceded by a Senior Agricultural Officials’ Meeting held from April 14–16 in Brasília, where groundwork was laid for deepening technical collaboration among BRICS members.
