Brazil’s Embraer eyes aviation investment opportunities in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, April 23, 2025 (FMC) — Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has expressed interest in investing across various aviation sectors in Ethiopia.

The announcement came during a meeting between Ethiopia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Alemu Sime, and a delegation led by Jackson Lehman, Deputy Ambassador of Brazil to Ethiopia, alongside Embraer executives.

Mr. Alemu Sime (PhD) highlighted Ethiopia’s growing aviation sector and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to attracting foreign investment.

He praised Ethiopian Airlines as a continental leader connecting Africa to the world and noted the presence of several private aviation operators in the country.

The Minister outlined promising investment opportunities, including aircraft maintenance, parts manufacturing, and the construction of a modern international airport in Bishoftu, aimed at strengthening Ethiopia’s role as a regional air transport hub.

In response, Embraer representatives expressed strong interest in collaborating with Ethiopian partners in areas such as maintenance, training, aircraft parts production, and supplying aircraft suited for domestic routes.

The company also signaled readiness to work closely with Ethiopian Airlines.

Embraer is globally recognized for producing commercial, executive, and cargo aircraft tailored to both regional and international markets.
