World Bank praises Ethiopia’s reform agenda, pledges continued support
Addis Ababa, April 24, 2025 (FMC) — The World Bank has commended Ethiopia’s bold reform efforts and reaffirmed its support for the country’s economic transformation, following discussions held on the sidelines of the 2025 IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, DC.
In a meeting with Ethiopia’s high-level delegation led by Finance Minister Mr. Ahmed Shide, Acting Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Amit Dar, lauded the Ethiopian government’s commitment to modernizing the economy, taming inflation, promoting private sector investment, and boosting productivity through its homegrown reform program.
Dar reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s path toward inclusive growth and sustainable development.
He emphasized the Bank’s continued engagement in areas such as public investment, policy reform, private sector support, and knowledge-sharing—all aimed at benefiting all citizens of Ethiopia.
The comments followed a briefing by Minister Shide on Ethiopia’s historic macroeconomic reform program, and the progress achieved through pro-poor reforms under challenging global conditions.
The Minister also outlined key priorities for future collaboration, including macro-financial resilience, FDI, energy security, regional trade and integration, financial inclusion, and human capital development.
