Addis-based diplomatic community sends greetings to Ethiopians on 129th Adwa Victory Day
Addis Ababa, March 2, 2025 (FMC) — Diplomatic missions and embassies of various countries, as well as multilateral organizations stationed in Addis Ababa, have extended their greetings to Ethiopians on the pccasion of the 129th anniversary of the historic Adwa Victory.
Ethiopians, both at home and abroad, are commemorating this significant milestone with a variety of events, all under the theme “Adwa: African Victory.”
In this context, the U.S. Embassy expressed that the Adwa Victory exemplifies perseverance, unity, and national pride in its message of well-wishing. “This day commemorates Ethiopia’s triumph over colonial forces at the Battle of Adwa in 1896, a defining moment of resilience, unity, and national pride.”
Similarly, the Russian Embassy offered its congratulations, wishing prosperity and continued success to the people of Ethiopia. The Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Evgeny Terekhin, expressed his best wishes to Ethiopians, stating; “I would like to warmly congratulate the government and the brotherly people of Ethiopia on the 129th anniversary of the victory at Adwa. And express my sincerest wishes of wellbeing, peace and prosperity to all Ethiopians.”
The Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia also extended its congratulations, emphasizing the shared history of heroism, unity, and resilience between the two nations. “The spirit of Adwa Victory has been passed down for 129 years to Ethiopia and beyond for generations. Throughout history, Ethiopia and China share courage, unity and perseverance on our path to modernization. May both countries embrace an even brighter future out of historical struggles,” the Embassy noted.
The Israeli Embassy in Ethiopia conveyed its warm wishes, recognizing the Adwa Victory as a symbol of Ethiopian perseverance and unity, and encouraged the strengthening of national unity. The Israeli Embassy said; “As a nation that understands the meaning of defending our sovereignty, we Israelis find hope and inspiration in the story of the Adwa Victory. This historic triumph stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, unity, and national pride, inspiring generations both in Ethiopia and beyond. May this day continue to strengthen the spirit of solidarity and progress for the Ethiopian people.”
The Canadian Embassy in Ethiopia paid tribute to the courage, unity, and determination of the Ethiopian people that led to their victory, acknowledging the historic achievement. “Today, we honor the bravery, unity, and resilience that led to Ethiopia’s historic triumph at the Battle of Adwa.”
Additionally, embassies from the United Kingdom, Iran, Pakistan, Australia, Germany, Cuba, Sri Lanka, and manyl other countries in Ethiopia also sent messages of congratulations to mark the occasion.
