African Welding Federation Annual Assembly and Int’l Conference underway in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, April 14, 2025 (FMC) – The 3rd Annual Assembly and International Conference of the African Welding Federation has kicked off at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, this morning

The opening session of the event is being attended by Ethiopia’s Minister of Water and Energy, Engineer Habtamu Ittefa, President of the African Welding Federation, Hamed Abdelaleem (Pr.), and other high-level officials.

The assembly and international conference, which is also being attended by 16 African countries, runs from 14 to 16 April 2025 under the theme “Empowering Africa: Strengthening Welding Capabilities for Regional Integration and Global Competitiveness.”

The conference is jointly organized by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Labor and Skills (MoLS), the Technical Vocational Training Institute (TVTI), and the African Welding Federation (AWF).

It was stated that various research papers on the welding profession will be presented and discussed at the conference. It was also indicated that it will be a platform for presenting problem-solving technological results, exchanging experiences, and creating connections.

A key highlight of the event is anticipated to be a welding skills competition featuring more than 40 skilled contenders from across the continent, including approximately 21 participants from Ethiopia. Some 6 international welding experts are also expected to contribute their global perspectives to the discussions.

Hosting such a conference provides a vital platform for exchange of expertise and best practices among African nations. Furthermore, it was noted the potential benefits for Ethiopia in terms of import substitution and the modernization of its manufacturing sector.

This year’s event follows the successful 2nd AWF Annual Assembly and Conference held in Lagos, Nigeria, in March 2023, which featured over 70 presentations.

The AWF annual assemblies and conferences serve as a crucial platform for scientists, engineers, industrialists, and policymakers to interact, review, and discuss the adoption, adaptation, and advancements in materials manufacturing technologies to enhance application experiences across Africa.
