Addis Ababa, April 14, 2025 (FMC) — Belarus expressed readiness to work in.cooperation with Ethiopia in technology, agriculture, mining, and other key development sectors during a series of high-level discussions held in Addis Ababa on Monday.
The talks were part of a working visit by Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhenkov, who met with Ethiopia’s Minister of Innovation and Technology, Mr. Belete Molla (PhD), to explore potential areas of collaboration.
On the occasion, Minister Belete thanked Belarus for its support to Ethiopia in multilateral forums and called for closer bilateral cooperation.
He noted that Ethiopia achieved encouraging results in science, technology, and innovation, and affirmed the government’s commitment to working with partner countries to build on that progress.
The Ethiopian Innovation and Technology Minister emphasized the importance of collaboration in infrastructure, human resource development, and modern technology as part of Ethiopia’s efforts to strengthen economic competitiveness.
In response, Belarusian Foreign Minister Ryzhenkov stated that his country is keen to expand its partnership with Ethiopia.
He confirmed his country’s readiness to cooperate in a wide range of sectors, including technology, agriculture, education, mining, trade, and information technology.
According to the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MInT), the two sides discussed areas of mutual interest and agreed to continue consultations to identify joint priorities.
As part of his visit, Foreign Minister Ryzhenkov also held separate meetings with Ethiopia’s State Minister for Agriculture Ms. Sofia Kassa (PhD) and Minister of Mines Habtamu Tegegn.
Discussions with State Minister Sofia covered agricultural mechanization and fertilizer supply, while talks with the Minister of Mines focused on possible cooperation in the mining sector.
Meanwhile, Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timotheos also met with his Belarusian counterpart Maksim Ryzhenkov on Sunday. The two foreign ministers discussed a range of bilateral and multilateral issues of shared concern.
