Addis Ababa, April 28, 2025 (FMC) – China has restored an average of 3.07 million hectares of grassland per year in recent years, as reported by TV BRICS, citing the Global Times.
With 110 billion yuan (US$15 billion) invested in grassland protection during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the country has significantly improved ecological conditions, particularly in key regions like the Horqin Sandy Land, while reducing sandstorm threats to Beijing and Tianjin.
Building on its successes in grassland restoration, China has pioneered the nation’s first large-scale model for the forestry and grassland sector, specifically designed for forestry and grassland management. This technological milestone, announced by the Ministry of Natural Resources, represents a quantum leap in digitising China’s ecological conservation efforts.
Professor Zhang Huaiqing, head of the research team and Chief Scientist of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, revealed that the new model synthesises specialised forestry knowledge, boosting its problem-solving capacity for sector-specific challenges by more than 60 per cent.
The advanced system is already demonstrating remarkable precision in critical applications ranging from species identification to disease monitoring.
