Chinese Embassy reaffirms commitment to working closely with IPDC

Addis Ababa, April 7, 2025 (FMC) – Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Chen Hai  reaffirmed China’s commitment to partnering with the Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) and other stakeholders to boost Chinese investments across various sectors of the Ethiopian economy.

The Ambassador made the remark following his visited  to the Jimma Special Economic Zone (JSEZ) to explore its operations and development.

During his tour, Ambassador Chen observed the production processes at Akshay Jay Company, a prominent exporter of edible avocado oil from the Jimma region, which are sold in European and U.S. markets.

Ambassador Chen praised the SEZ’s well-developed infrastructure, particularly highlighting the reliable supply of electricity and water, which are crucial for maximizing local resources.

He reaffirmed China’s commitment to partnering with the Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) and other stakeholders to boost Chinese investments across various sectors of the Ethiopian economy.

Zemen Junedi, Chief Investment Promotion and Marketing Officer of IPDC, emphasized the vital role that Chinese investors play in Ethiopia’s special economic zones and free trade areas.

He also expressed the corporation’s dedication to strengthening cooperation with the Chinese Embassy, focusing on investment promotion, human resource development, and knowledge transfer.

Furthermore, Zemen encouraged further Chinese investments in Ethiopia, pointing to recent reforms that aim to transform industrial parks into special economic zones, along with enhanced investment incentives and a 10 percent tariff reduction on Ethiopian products entering the U.S. market.
