ENDF Chief of Staff receives Moroccan military delegation for talks on defense cooperation

Addis Ababa, April 25, 2025 (FMC) — Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF), Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, today received a high-level military delegation from the Kingdom of Morocco for discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral defense cooperation.

The delegation was led by Lieutenant General Mohamed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone.

The visit builds on earlier consultations held in Addis Ababa and Rabat, as both countries explore structured collaboration in the defense sector.

During the meeting, Field Marshal Berhanu underlined Ethiopia’s commitment to developing a capable and modern defense force that contributes to regional peace and aligns with the country’s growing industrial capacity.

He noted that continued dialogue with Morocco is part of Ethiopia’s broader effort to expand partnerships that support national security priorities.

Lieutenant General Berrid, on his part, commended Ethiopia’s historic leadership in Africa and expressed Morocco’s readiness to cooperate in key areas including cybersecurity, technology transfer, air force, and naval development.

He emphasized the importance of experience-sharing in building mutual capacity and advancing shared regional security goals.

The two sides agreed to take steps toward formalizing the partnership through a memorandum of understanding, with a focus on long-term cooperation and institutional coordination.

Following the discussions, the Moroccan delegation visited the Hamicho Ammunition Engineering Industry and the Ethiopian Air Force headquarters, where they were briefed on Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to enhance its defense manufacturing and operational readiness.
