Ethio-Djibouti Railway eases cross-border trade with one-stop customs and logistics service

Addis Ababa, April 29, 2025 (FMC) — The Ethio-Djibouti Railway S.C. (EDRC) has announced the launch of a one-stop service that integrates rail freight with transit, customs clearance, and logistics operations.

Speaking to Fana Digital, the Corporation’s Global Logistics Director, Ms. Mentesnot Yohannes, said the new service is designed to streamline trade and logistics operations.

It allows importers and exporters to access customs and port documentation services—previously handled by foreign transit agencies—at a single center.

She noted that the service eliminates the hassle faced by importers and exporters by offering comprehensive transport and customs services in one location. The service fee, she added, is very low, excluding standard port and customs charges.

Ms. Mentesnot also indicated that a system has been established to allow users to track logistics and general processes.
