FMC and China’s NRTA forge strategic media partnership

Addis Ababa, March 27, 2025 (FMC) — Fana Media Corporation (FMC), one of Ethiopia’s largest media companies, has partnered with China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) to enhance media collaboration, technology exchange, and capacity building.

FMC CEO Mr. Admasu Damtew met with Zhang Yawei, Cultural Affairs Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, and Feng Bo, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Department of China’s Economic and Technical Cooperation, at FMC’s headquarters to discuss the agreement.

He highlighted FMC’s extensive broadcasting reach and affirmed its readiness to work closely with NRTA.

As part of the collaboration, China will provide nine dubbed TV programs, including series, documentaries, animations, and agricultural content, under the “China Hours” initiative.

This move aims to introduce Ethiopian audiences to Chinese culture while generating advertising revenue for FMC.

The partnership also includes capacity building, technology transfer, media training, and content exchange.

Additionally, the China-Africa Joint Project for African All-Media Centers will support African broadcasters in upgrading media infrastructure and strengthening cooperation in the radio and television sectors.

Zhang Yawei emphasized China’s commitment to media collaboration, while Feng Bo noted plans to introduce widely popular Chinese programs to African audiences through FMC.
