Moroccan military delegation commends Ethiopia’s drone technology

Addis Ababa, April 25, 2025 (FMC) — A high-level delegation from the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces, led by Lieutenant General Mohamed Berrid, Inspector General and Commander of the Southern Zone, has praised Ethiopia’s growing technological capacity in the defense sector following visits to key military and intelligence institutions in Addis Ababa.

The delegation toured SkyWin Aeronautics Industries, the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), and held discussions with senior Ethiopian defense officials, including Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF), Field Marshal Berhanu Jula.

Speaking after the visit to SkyWin, Lieutenant General Berrid stated, “We are honored to visit SkyWin and impressed by the high level of professionalism in Ethiopia’s drone technology. These drones are valuable for border control, special forces, and many other domains involving both armed and security forces.”

The Moroccan delegation also emphasized that Ethiopia’s advancement in drone production and technology transfer holds significant potential for bolstering national sovereignty and enhancing regional security.

The Ethiopian National Intelligence and Security Service confirmed that cooperation is already underway between the two countries in areas including intelligence, cybersecurity, and counterterrorism. NISS Deputy Director General Sisay Tola and other senior officials took part in the engagements, NISS told FMC.

SkyWin Aeronautics Industries, inaugurated in March 2025, is a central component of Ethiopia’s national strategy for achieving defense technology self-reliance. The company produces unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for both civilian and military use and supports Ethiopia’s growing role as a regional security and innovation hub.

The two countries are expected to formalize their growing cooperation through a memorandum of understanding in the near future.
