Addis Ababa, April 7, 2025 (FMC) – A national strategic plan to increase the population of endangered Walia Ibex in the North Mountains National Park to 600 in the next five years has been launched today, the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority disclosed today.
In a discussion held in Gondar city on the strategic plan, Director General of Ethiopian Forestry and Wildlife Authority Kumara Waqjra said population of Walia Ibex has dropped to 306 due to illegal activities around the North Mountains National Park.
In light of this, he confirmed that a national strategic plan has been prepared to increase the number of the Walia Ibex in the Park.
The Minister of State for Tourism, Mr. Sleshi Girma, said that the Ethiopian government is working on tourism as a major economic sector.
He said it is encouraging to pay attention to increasing the population of the endangered Walia Ibex.
