PM Abiy Ahmed announces a productive 1st day at 38th AU Summit

Addis Ababa, February 15, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) announced a productive first day at the 38th African Union Summit, engaging with leaders on key regional, continental, and development priorities.

The Premier said that he had held bilateral meetings with President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, President Duma Boko of Botswana, and President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, reaffirming our commitment to deeper cooperation.

He also discussed regional and continental issues with President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, reinforcing collective efforts for Africa’s progress.

Beyond government, the Prime Minister met with Global Fund Executive Director Peter Sands and GAVI CEO Sania Nishtar to strengthen Ethiopia’s health sector resilience, and spoke with African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina and IFAD President Alvaro Lario on boosting Ethiopia’s agricultural sector. He also engaged with Aliko Dangote and Tony Elumelu, recognizing the private sector’s role in driving Africa’s growth.

“Looking forward to building on these discussions for shared prosperity,” the Prime Minister underscored.
