Addis Ababa, April 15, 2025 (FMC) – In his statement at the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed (PhD), has called for unity, reparations, and digital inclusion across the continent.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Africa finds itself at a crossroads of uncertainty and opportunity, requiring collective resolve, resilience, and unity to overcome historical injustices and lingering trauma that he said hindered the progress of the continent.
He stated that the demand for reparations is a call for justice, seeking to restore the dignity of millions and heal the deepest scars of poverty, inequality, and discrimination.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the need for Africa to rise above geopolitical tensions and historical divisions imposed by colonial borders. By fostering solidarity among nations and embracing a shared destiny, Africa can pool its resources and talents to unlock its full potential. He called for African solutions to African challenges, securing lasting peace and stability.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the importance of digital inclusion, citing the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, particularly generative AI, which offers unprecedented opportunities to transform economies and societies. He emphasized the need for Africa to actively participate in the global technology race to ensure it is a competitive player in the evolving digital landscape while also ensuring equitable benefits from this technological revolution.
The Premier highlighted Ethiopia’s achievements under its guiding philosophy of Medemer, which promotes prosperity, unity, sovereignty, security, and national dignity. He noted that Ethiopia has made remarkable strides in reforming its political system, building a resilient economy, and promoting food security and rural development.
Prime Minister Abiy concluded by calling on Africa to march forward with determination, harnessing the limitless potential of its continent and people to claim its future, build a legacy of equality and prosperity, and secure dignity for all.
