Addis Ababa, April 30, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has praised the Bole Sub-City administration for converting Bulbula Park—once a dumping ground—into a vibrant public space, calling it a model that should be replicated in other parts of Addis Ababa and across the country at large.
Accompanied by senior officials, Prime Minister Abiy visited the revitalized Bulbula Park in Addis Ababa on Tuesday. Speaking on-site, he emphasized the importance of community involvement and local resource mobilization in achieving rapid and meaningful development.
“Every sub-city should learn from this,” he stated. “It is essential to mobilize the community and carry out such projects using local resources.”
The transformation is part of a broader sub-city-led initiative spanning over 20 hectares, extending from Bole Airport Cargo and Bulbula to the Akaki Bridge. The project, driven by community participation, includes green spaces, road dividers, modern football fields, and other infrastructure developments.
“The institution-building and development efforts we are undertaking across various areas are clear signs of our nation’s rise, and these achievements are being demonstrated at multiple levels,” the Prime Minister noted.
Highlighting the turnaround of Bulbula Park as a key example, Abiy pointed out that the site was transformed into a functional and valuable public area in just a few months. He applauded the leadership of Bole Sub-City and its collaboration with private actors for initiating and completing the project through local ownership and public mobilization.
“This investment benefits both the present and future generations,” he said, urging residents to maintain the park and calling on stakeholders to expand such initiatives to other parts of the capital and the country at large.
