Strengthening partnerships requires continuous engagement – PM Abiy

Addis Ababa, February 16, 2025 (FMC) – Strengthening partnerships requires continuous engagement, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said after a series of bilateral talks with leaders of various African countries and heads of multilateral organizations on the sidelines of the ongoing the 38th AU Summit here in Addis Ababa today.

On the sidelines of the second day of the 38th AU Summit, the Ethiopian premier had a productive discussion with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia on key regional matters.

Abiy also met with President John Mahama of Ghana and President Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi to exchange views on shared challenges and opportunities, reaffirming our commitment to closer cooperation.

“Ethiopia’s WTO accession remains a priority, and I had a constructive conversation with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the WTO, on the progress and next steps,” Abiy noted on his social media page, adding that, “With the advancements in our homegrown economic reform program, we remain dedicated to integrating into the global trading system in a way that serves our national interests.”

Furthermore, PM Abiy had also held talks with Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University and President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, on various development-related topics. “His continued support and insights remain invaluable to Ethiopia’s development journey.”
