Amplifying credible voices help reduce risk of radicalization, polarization – IGAD chief
Addis Ababa, December 18, 2024 (FMC) – The Executive Secretary of Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu, has emphasized the urgent need for unified and multi-stakeholder approaches to address peace and security challenges in the Horn of Africa region.
The IGAD chief made this statement while addressing a multi-stakeholder meeting which was convened today in Mombasa, Kenya. The event, according to IGAD’s social media post, brought together religious leaders, educators, and media practitioners from across the region.
It is learned that the meeting was organized to discuss collaborative strategies for reducing the risks of radicalization and polarization that can fuel conflict and violence.
On the occasion, Workneh reaffirmed the bloc’s commitment in strengthening regional stability and resilience.
“Addressing the challenge of peace and security in the Horn of Africa requires a collaborative effort among community leaders and stakeholders,” the Executive Secretary emphasized.
Workneh added: “By amplifying credible voices, we can work together to reduce the risk of radicalization and polarization which may lead to conflict and violence.”
