AUC Chairperson confers with Gates Foundation Africa Director on strengthening health partnership
Addis Ababa, April 22, 2025 (FMC) — Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, held talks with Dr. Paulin Basinga, Africa Director at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, to discuss strengthening the partnership between the AUC and the Foundation.
According to the African Union, their discussion focused on key health-related issues facing the continent.
Topics on the agenda included health financing, the operationalization of the Africa Medicines Agency and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), and advancing the continent’s sovereignty in medicine and vaccine production.
The meeting also explored ways to better align partner investments with Africa’s health priorities.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation supports a wide range of programs across various African countries. These include initiatives aimed at improving health and nutrition, promoting gender equality, preventing and treating diseases, supporting research, enhancing access to water, sanitation, and hygiene, boosting agriculture, and expanding financial services for underserved populations.
