Collaborative efforts highlighted for building sustainable and resilient communities
Addis Ababa, February 25, 2025 (FMC) – TearFund Ethiopia, together with various stakeholders, has convened a “National Workshop on Parametric Insurance and Digital Tech Platforms for Anticipatory Actions.”
The workshop gathered representatives from public and private organizations, financial institutions, scholars, and insurance companies, focusing on supporting national endeavors to foster sustainable and resilient communities.
In his address, Simba Nyamarezi, TearFund Country Director in Ethiopia, emphasized collaborative efforts among stakeholders to enhance economic sustainability and environmental resilience, particularly for communities in the drought-prone areas in Konso Zone of South Ethiopia and Borena Zone of the Oromia Regional States.
Abebe Haile, Senior Coordinator for Humanitarian and Resilience Programs at TearFund Ethiopia, noted that the organization is spearheading initiatives aimed at promoting resilient agricultural practices, digital inclusivity, and women’s empowerment in targeted areas of the Oromia and South Ethiopia regions.
According to Abebe, TearFund is also equipping farmers and pastoralists in these areas with updated weather forecasts, disaster response guidance, agricultural advice, and index-based insurance to bolster their livelihoods.
The workshop evaluated activities undertaken over the past 18 months as participants toured photograph exhibition depicting major initiatives of TearFund Ethiopia.
Participants also expressed their commitment to the ongoing initiatives aimed at achieving economic sustainability and environmental resilience, benefiting farmers and pastoralists in the region.
