Developing multiple hub cities balances dev’t, strengthens resilience – PMO
Addis Ababa, January 28, 2025 (FMC) – Developing multiple hub cities creates jobs, balances development, reduces congestion, and strengthens resilience, according to the Office of the Prime Minister.
In a short video which highlights current progress of urban and rural corridor development works in Jimma and other areas, the PM Office reminded that by investing in diverse hubs, new opportunities are unlocked and drive sustainable progress for all.
“A nation thrives when growth is shared. Through the development of city and rural corridors, we are witnessing the rise of dynamic hub cities across the country, with Jimma emerging as a prime example,” it was mentioned.
It was indicated that guided by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s 10-point direction, recent investments will position Jimma as an international city by leveraging its unique strengths and regional advantages.
The ten points outlined by the Premier include increasing the production of high-quality and specialty coffee, introduce diverse organic tea products for both local and international markets, as well as utilizing natural fertilizers to produce, package, and export high-quality fruit products.
Meanwhile, improving the quality and export of beef, milk, poultry, and eggs to meet international export standards; developing a competitive spice industry by processing and packaging a variety of spices for global markets; and establishing factory-level production of internationally standardized wood products are also among the ten-point direction set out by the premier.
Furthermore, developing ceramic factories to produce high-quality flooring, wall, and roofing materials for both local construction and export; leveraging Jimma’s natural, religious, and cultural heritage to position it as a key tourism destination; strengthening Jimma’s well-known spirit of peace and hospitality; as well as enhancing work ethics while addressing and transforming harmful cultural practices are also other key directions pointed out by the prime minister to realize Jimma as an international city by leveraging its unique strengths and regional advantages.
