ERCS Opens First Humanitarian School in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, January 27, 2025 (FMC) — The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) has announced the opening of its first humanitarian school in Ethiopia.

The launch event was attended by Deputy Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives, Ms. Lomi Bedo, and government officials, representatives of NGOs, and ambassadors of various countries.

On the occasion, Deputy Speaker Lomi Bedo said that the humanitarian school will play a significant role in developing skilled human resources in the humanitarian sector.

She said that the Ethiopian Red Cross Society has been providing various humanitarian assistance to those affected by natural and man-made disasters for many years.

The Deputy Speaker also stated that the humanitarian school will play a significant role in developing a humanitarian generation and responding quickly to disasters caused by various reasons.

Ms. Lemi noted that the school will help ERCS make humanitarian work more accessible and scientific.

Subsequently, she assured that the government will provide the necessary support to ERCS to achieve its planned tasks.

Ethiopian Red Cross Society Secretary General Abera Lulesa said that the main goal of the school is to produce a generation built on humanity.

He indicated that the curriculum has been prepared and is ready and registration will be held from tomorrow 28th January 2025.
