Ethio Engineering Group begins electric scooter production in Bishoftu
Addis Ababa, March 4, 2025 (FMC) – Ethio Engineering Group (EEG) has launched electric scooter production at its Bishoftu Automotive Manufacturing Industry, marking a major step toward sustainable urban mobility in Ethiopia.
EEG’s social media team announced today that the initiative reflects Ethiopia’s push for eco-friendly transportation solutions.
The production agreement was signed today between EEG CEO Ambassador Suleiman Dedefo and Mr. Rubinn Zheun, General Manager of Jiaxin Li, China. The partnership aims to introduce affordable, efficient electric scooters to ease urban transport challenges.
The new scooters, powered by rechargeable batteries, are lightweight (15 kg), compact, and designed for city commuting. They can travel up to 30 km on a single charge, require minimal parking space, and produce zero emissions, contributing to a cleaner environment.
During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Suleiman highlighted the scooters’ role in supporting Ethiopia’s corridor development projects and providing an alternative urban transport option. Mr. Zheun emphasized their safety, reliability, and ability to reduce traffic congestion in cities like Addis Ababa, with a speed range of 20–30 km/h. Detailed usage instructions were also shared at the event.
The scooters are expected to hit the market soon.
