Ethiopia and Czech Republic engage in 8th political consultation in Prague

Addis Ababa, February 3, 2025 (FMC) – The 8th round of political consultations between Ethiopia and the Czech Republic took place today in Prague, further solidifying the two nations’ diplomatic ties.

The Ethiopian delegation was led by Ambassador Mesganu Arga, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, while the Czech side was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Jiří Kozák. Joining them were officials from the Czech Director for African Affairs, the Czech Development Cooperation Agency, and the Department of Trade and Economy.

In his opening address, Ambassador Mesganu highlighted the robust diplomatic relations between the two countries, urging that this historical partnership be transformed into a comprehensive and multifaceted collaboration. He pointed out that the increasing frequency of high-level visits signifies the strengthening diplomatic rapport.

Ambassador Mesganu emphasized that ongoing political consultations are vital for enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, tourism, education, and technology transfer. He encouraged Czech investors to explore the numerous emerging opportunities stemming from Ethiopia’s economic reform initiatives.

Deputy Minister Jiří Kozák echoed this sentiment, noting the considerable potential for mutually beneficial cooperation between Ethiopia and the Czech Republic and affirmed their country’s commitment to advancing this relationship.

Both officials agreed on the significance of the political consultation framework in elevating bilateral relations and ensuring the effective implementation of existing agreements, while suggesting that close cooperation and focused attention are essential for mutual growth and progress.

Following the political meeting, the Ethiopian delegation is expected to engage further with various Czech governmental agencies.

It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia visited the Czech Republic in November 2023, while Czech Prime Minister Peter Fiala made an official visit to Ethiopia the same month. Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Marian Jurichka’s visit to Ethiopia in December 2024 underscored the ongoing diplomatic exchanges between the two nations.
