Ethiopia and Greece seek to strengthen government and people-to-people ties
Addis Ababa, April 25, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia and Greece have reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing both government-to-government and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
The announcement came after a visit by a Greek delegation led by Dr. Maximos Charakopoulos, General Secretary of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) and a member of the Greek Parliament, to the House of People’s Representatives (HoPR) of Ethiopia.
On the occasion, Ethiopia’s Chief Speaker of the HoPR, Mr. Tagese Chafo, held discussions with Dr. Charakopoulos and his delegation.
Mr. Tagese expressed Ethiopia’s intention to continue strengthening the longstanding relations with Greece, emphasizing the desire to learn from Greece’s experience in various fields such as trade, investment, and technology.
Ambassador Dina Mufti, Chairperson of the Ethiopia-EU Friendship Committee, also highlighted the importance of advancing Ethiopia-Greece cooperation, especially in key sectors such as agriculture, trade, tourism, energy, and technology.
He urged closer collaboration between the two countries’ parliaments to further foster people-to-people ties.
Dr. Charakopoulos, in response, emphasized Greece’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s closer ties with the European Union. He also expressed Greece’s eagerness to share its expertise in areas like construction, maritime transport, and technology.
The Greek delegation disclosed interest in exchanging experiences in agriculture and tourism, while encouraging Greek investors to increase their participation in Ethiopia’s growing investment opportunities.
