Ethiopia and Russia deepening ties: House of Federation Speaker meets with Russian Counterpart

Addis Ababa, February 19, 2025 (FMC) – Agegnehu Teshager, Speaker of Ethiopia’s House of Federation, held discussions this morning with Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, and her accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Speaker Agegnehu highlighted the strong historical and cultural bonds between Ethiopia and Russia, noting the growing momentum in their bilateral relationship. He reiterated the Ethiopian government’s commitment to further elevating its strategic partnership with Russia.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and the Russian delegation led by the Upper House Speaker Valentina Matvienko held bilateral talks on Tuesday.

The Russian delegation, led by Speaker Matvienko, received a welcoming reception from senior Ethiopian government officials, including Speaker Agegnehu Teshager and State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Birtukan Ayano upon arrival at Bole International Airport.
