Ethiopia, Belarus discuss potential avenues for cooperation in the field of defense
Addis Ababa, April 14, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Minister of Defense, Engineer Aisha Mohamed, held talks on Monday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenko, who is in Addis Ababa for an official working visit.
The two sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on the military and security sectors.
Minister Aisha, accompanied by senior defense officials, emphasized Ethiopia’s commitment to deepening ties with Belarus, citing shared values, historical links, and cultural affinities as a strong foundation for enhanced collaboration.
Foreign Minister Ryzhenko underscored Belarus’s interest in expanding cooperation with Ethiopia, especially in areas such as military training and the exchange of defense technology.
He affirmed his government’s readiness to work closely with Ethiopia to advance mutual defense interests.
Ryzhenko further noted that his engagements during the visit revealed promising prospects for partnership beyond the defense sector, including agriculture, industry, mining, and culture. He said the progress observed in these areas could serve as a stepping stone toward a broader and more robust bilateral relationship.
