Ethiopia commends UNCTAD’s pivotal role in advancing interests of the Global South
Addis Ababa, January 23, 2025 (FMC) – Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the UN Offices and International Organizations at Geneva and Vienna, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew, met today with Mr. Paul Akiwumi, Director for the Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes of UNCTAD to exchange views on the ongoing cooperative relations between Ethiopia and United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
In this connection, the Director provided a briefing on UNCTAD’s recently launched report on the Productive Capacities Development of Ethiopia as well as the upcoming UNCTAD XVI Quadrennial Conference which is going to be held in Vietnam in October 2025.
Ambassador Tsegab appreciated UNCTAD’s pivotal role in advancing the interests of the Global South over the last 60 years in which it has provided developing nations with pathways to address their unique challenges by emphasizing on inclusive growth, equitable trade and sustainable development.
Ambassador Tsegab further expressed the Permanent Mission’s readiness to continue engaging with UNCTAD to realize the implementation of the Productive Capacities Development Programme and Ethiopia’s commitment to actively participate in the sixteenth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD 16).
