Addis Ababa, December 21, 2024 (FMC) – Ethiopia is harnessing energy from 19 renewable power plants, including the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the Aysha Wind Farm 2, which are producing electricity using their active turbines, as announced by Ethiopian Electric Power.

According to Fisseha Getachew, Public Relations and Communication Manager of EEP, these clean power plants collectively have a generating capacity of 6,879 MW, translating to an annual output of 23,059 GWh.

However, upon full completion of projects like GERD, Aysha Wind Power Plant, Koisha Hydropower, and Asella Wind Power Plants, the total annual electricity generation capacity is expected to rise to 7,240 MW. This increase will elevate Ethiopia’s power production capability from the current 5,656 MW to an impressive 12,000 MW.
