Ethiopia, Czech Republic agree to strengthen cooperation in agricultural development

Addis Ababa, April 2, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia and the Czech Republic have agreed to strengthen cooperation in agricultural development, according to Ministry of Agriculture.

Agriculture Minister Girma Amente and Czech’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Miroslav Kosek held discussion about ways to enhance bilateral ties in the sector.

During the discussion, the minister noted that agriculture contributes one-third to Ethiopia’s GDP and 70-80 percent to export earnings by employing the majority of the workforce in the country.

Girma pointed out the significant opportunities in contract farming, coffee export, and local tractor assembly production.

Ethiopia has the potential to be a hub for agricultural exports to Africa, he noted.

Ambassador Kosek expressed Czech companies’ interest in investing in fertilizer production, irrigation technology, and mechanization, offering to facilitate knowledge exchange through delegations.

Both sides finally affirmed their commitment to deepening agricultural cooperation, with a particular focus on technological advancement and knowledge transfer.
