Ethiopia, France ties founded on shared history of collaboration and mutual respect: DPM

Addis Ababa, December 22, 2024 (FMC) – The bond between Ethiopia and France is built on a shared history of collaboration, a partnership rooted in mutual respect and a commitment to progress, according to Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia Mr. Temesgen Truneh.

In a post published on his social media page, the Deputy PM highlighted the long history of bilateral ties of the two countries in light of President Emmanuel Macron’s latest visit to Addis Ababa on Saturday.

President Macron arrived in Addis Ababa on December 21 for an official working visit to Ethiopia on Saturday in which he conducted a range of bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

After these events, Temesgen noted, “For generations, France has stood alongside Ethiopia, championing our social and economic development with unwavering support.”

“President Emmanuel Macron’s visit is more than a symbolic gesture—it is a reaffirmation of the enduring friendship between our nations. His presence here speaks to the strengthening of our diplomatic ties and the promise of an even brighter future together,” DPM Temesgen underscored.

The Deputy PM expressed gratitude to the French government for their pivotal role in preserving Ethiopia’s cultural heritage, including the remarkable restoration of the Lalibela churches and the historic Jubilee Palace. These efforts, according to Temesgen, are a testament to France’s appreciation for the East African nation’s history and its commitment to shared legacy of the two nations.

“As we welcome President Macron on his second visit, we are honored by his recognition of the new Ethiopia—a nation transforming with hope, resilience, and a vision for a better tomorrow. Together, we stand ready to deepen our partnership and continue building a future defined by cooperation and shared purpose,” he further noted.
