Ethiopia Launches State-of-the-Art Locally Made Passport

Addis Ababa, February 21, 2025 (FMC) – A cutting-edge passport, produced entirely in Ethiopia, was officially launched today with President Taye Atsek-Selassie in attendance.

In his address, the President emphasized that the introduction of the electronic passport not only enhances the nation’s image but also reflects the respect and importance placed on its citizens.

Equipped with an electronic chip that securely stores personal information and fingerprints, the new passport showcases a design that features distinctly Ethiopian aesthetics on its visa pages, replacing the previous design produced by a foreign manufacturer.

This initiative is expected to not only bolster national pride but also to generate revenue by reducing the country’s reliance on foreign currency for passport production.
