Ethiopia, Pakistan agree on strengthening parliamentary cooperation to address global issues
Addis Ababa, April 23, 2025 (FMC) — The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and Pakistan have agreed on strengthening the Parliamentary cooperation to address the global issues through joint efforts at multilateral level.
The crucial discussion to this end took place in a meeting between Jemal Beker Abdula, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab, Pakistan.
Both sides identified various areas of cooperation including Parliamentary exchanges, technology transfer, agriculture, tourism and culture, the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad said in a press release sent to FMC today.
The Ambassador briefed the Speaker about the growing bilateral relations of Ethiopia and Pakistan especially with the opening of the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad, commencement of the Ethiopian Airlines operations in Karachi, and delegations exchange in diverse sectors of business, trade, investment, education, ICT and health.
He said Ethiopia has a great regard for the Government of Pakistan for honoring his country to host this year Single Country Exhibition under its timely and effective “Look Africa and Engage Africa” policy.
The Ambassador said the Government and people of Ethiopia are all set to welcome their brothers and sisters for the Single Country Exhibition taking place from May 15th to May 17th, 2025, closely scheduled with the High-Level Business Forum “Invest in Ethiopia” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from May 12th to May 13th, 2025.
He extended an invitation to the Speaker Punjab Assembly to visit Ethiopia which has been completely transformed under the leadership of Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, who has undertaken transformative reforms in political, social, economic and legal realms.
Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan accepted the invitation and said he had a great respect for Ethiopia and its brave and resilient people who have dealt with various challenges with courage and unity.
He said increasing cooperation at the parliamentary level and exchanging delegations would allow both countries to learn from each other’s experiences.
The Speaker welcomed the launch of Ethiopian Airlines flights to Karachi and called it a good step towards improving bilateral relations.
