Ethiopia, Pakistan explore prospects for bilateral cooperation in peace and security
Addis Ababa, April17, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopia and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, with a focus on expanding cooperation in peace, security, and multilateral engagement, during a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Thursday.
Ambassador of Ethiopia to Pakistan, Jemal Beker Abdula, held talks with Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Interior, to explore opportunities for collaboration across multiple sectors.
In a press note sent to FMC, the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad said the meeting also underscored the growing connectivity between the two nations, notably through the launch of Ethiopian Airlines flights from Karachi — a move that has bolstered Pakistan’s links with Africa as a whole.
The two officials discussed regional and global challenges, including climate change, terrorism, and maritime piracy. Ambassador Jemal emphasized the importance of forging partnerships to achieve shared goals of peace and prosperity, noting that Ethiopia and Pakistan continue to collaborate in international forums, particularly through their contributions to United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Minister Naqvi, who also serves as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, expressed appreciation for the strengthening bilateral relationship and pledged support for deeper cooperation. He also received congratulations from Ambassador Jemal for assuming the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council and for Pakistan’s hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
Both sides expressed their readiness to advance mutual interests through increased bilateral and multilateral engagement.
