Ethiopia reaffirms commitment to further enhance peace, security in Africa as member of PSC
Addis Ababa, February 12, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopia is poised to further enhance its dedication to fostering peace and stability across the continent as a member of the African Union Peace and Security Council, Spokesperson of Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ambassador Nebiat Getachew remarked.
Ethiopia has been elected as a member of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) during the election held at the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, which commenced today in Addis Ababa.
The election of five members to the Peace and Security Council of AU was one of the agendas of this session.
Accordingly, Ethiopia has been elected as a member of the council which is described as recognition of the country’s contributions to peace, security and development across the African continent.
The Spokesperson told ENA that Ethiopia received the highest number of votes in the election.
Ensuring the peace and security of African continent is one of the key elements of AU’s Agenda 2063; the spokesperson noted indicating Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to realizing this aspiration through its engagements in the peacekeeping endeavors across the region.
The Peace and Security Council (PSC) is the standing decision-making organ of the AU for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.
It is a collective security and early warning arrangement intended to facilitate timely and efficient responses to conflict and crisis situations in Africa.
The Council is also the key pillar of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), which is the framework for promoting peace, security and stability in Africa.
