Ethiopia reaffirms unwavering commitment to global food security

Addis Ababa, January 28, 2025 (FMC) – Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to UN and Other Organizations in Geneva and Vienna, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew, participated in the first meeting of the Group of Friends of Food Security (GoFFS) which was held in Vienna on 27th of January 2025.

The meeting, co-chaired by the Ambassadors of Italy and Sudan in Vienna, brought together Member States and international organizations to foster global collaboration in addressing the critical challenge of food insecurity.

The meeting emphasized GoFFS’ mission as a platform for dialogue, experience sharing, and coordinated action among Member States and Vienna-based International Organizations. Discussions focused on advocating policies to advance agriculture, nutrition, and sustainable food systems while enhancing international cooperation, particularly for vulnerable regions.

In his remarks, Ambassador Tsegab reaffirmed Ethiopia’s unwavering commitment to global food security. He highlighted Ethiopia’s proactive efforts in advancing innovative agricultural practices and building sustainable food systems, while calling for stronger international cooperation to combat hunger effectively.

He also referenced the World Without Hunger Conference, hosted in Addis Ababa on 7 November 2024. This landmark event, organized by UNIDO, showcased innovative solutions, forged new partnerships, and mobilized concrete investments to combat hunger.

Ambassador Tsegab reiterated that Ethiopia remains committed to global food security initiatives and will continue collaborating with Member States, international organizations, and stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions for a food-secure world.

In closing, the co-chairs called on the importance of partnerships with the United Nations Office in Vienna (UNOV) and called for unity in addressing food insecurity challenges.
