Ethiopia-South Sudan Joint Border Trade Committee Meeting Begins

Addis Ababa, March 3, 2025 (FMC) – The first meeting of the Ethiopia-South Sudan Joint Border Trade Committee is underway in Bishoftu town earlier today.

The purpose of the meeting is to review the implementation status of the border trade protocol signed by the two countries, said Ethiopia’s State Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Ms. Yasmin Wahabrebi.

She indicated that the meeting also aims to discuss issues that can be addressed to strengthen bilateral relations through the implementation of the agreement.

The agreement will contribute significantly to the economic development of the peoples of the two countries and to creating peace and stability in the border area, according to the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration of Ethiopia (MoTRI).

The State Minister also noted that this meeting will play a significant role in addressing issues such as contraband and illicit trade and strengthening the implementation of the Border Trade Protocol Agreement.
