Ethiopia to develop aviation industry roadmap aligned with global advancements
Addis Ababa, March 31, 2025 (FMC) — The Ethiopian National Civil Aviation Security Committee has announced plans to formulate a roadmap for the aviation industry’s future development in alignment with global advancements.
A directive has also been issued for the continuous evaluation and management of the industry’s current status, according to the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS).
The committee convened today to assess the industry at national, regional, and international levels, focusing on existing security measures, potential threats, vulnerabilities, and gaps that could impact aviation operations.
In a press release communicated today, NISS highlighted that Ethiopia’s aviation security has received multiple affirmations for its reliability and adherence to international safety standards.
However, officials stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance and implementing strategic measures to uphold these standards.
Sisay Tola, Deputy Director General of NISS and Chairman of the committee, emphasized the need to protect the competitiveness of Ethiopian Airlines amid national and regional security challenges.
He called for strengthened collaboration among all aviation stakeholders to address strategic security concerns.
Committee members underscored the importance of sustaining the aviation industry’s current growth trajectory and ensuring the coordinated utilization of resources across relevant institutions.
They also highlighted the necessity of proactively addressing both internal and external security threats through comprehensive analyses of national and regional conditions.
Forum participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaborative efforts to safeguard Ethiopian Airlines, recognizing it as a source of national and continental pride.
