Ethiopia to Host African Welding Federation Annual Assembly and Int’l Conference

Addis Ababa, April 11, 2025 (FMC) — The 3rd Annual Assembly and International Conference of the African Welding Federation will take place in Addis Ababa from April 14 to 16, 2025.

Center of Excellence for Engineering CEO at the Ethiopia Technical and Vocational Training Institute, Handiso Selamu, announced the upcoming event during a press briefing today.

Ethiopia is a founding member of the African Welding Federation, it was learned.

The assembly and international conference is expected to draw participants from over 16 African nations.

Some 6 international welding experts are also expected to contribute their global perspectives to the discussions.

A key highlight of the event will be a welding skills competition featuring more than 40 skilled contenders from across the continent, including approximately 21 participants from Ethiopia.

According to the CEO, hosting such a conference provides a vital platform for exchange of expertise and best practices among African nations.

Furthermore, he noted the potential benefits for Ethiopia in terms of import substitution and the modernization of its manufacturing sector.

The event will feature the presentation of research papers on welding, showcases of problem-solving technologies, opportunities for professional experience exchange, and networking sessions aimed at fostering collaborations within the welding community.

The Annual Assembly and International Conference of the African Welding Federation (AWF) is organized by Ministry of Labor and Skills and the Technical and Vocational Training Institute.

This year’s event follows the successful 2nd AWF Annual Assembly and Conference held in Lagos, Nigeria, in March 2023, which featured over 70 presentations.

The AWF annual assemblies and conferences serve as a crucial platform for scientists, engineers, industrialists, and policymakers to interact, review, and discuss the adoption, adaptation, and advancements in materials manufacturing technologies to enhance application experiences across Africa.

Local news agency ENA reminded that the hosting of these events rotates among African member states.
