Ethiopia, Uganda strengthen bilateral ties at 4th Joint Ministerial Commission meeting with signing of multiple MOUs
Addis Ababa, April 4, 2025 (FMC) — The fourth Ethio-Uganda Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) meeting convened today, at the Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa.
In his opening remarks, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, highlighted the JMC as a vital platform for assessing and enhancing the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and Uganda.
He said this Joint Ministerial Commission would provide an opportunity to further enhance bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, which rely on a shared vision and mutual respect.
The Minister underscored the significance of cooperation, particularly in addressing escalating regional challenges, and expressed optimism that the outcomes of the JMC would elevate bilateral ties and contribute to broader peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, praised the flourishing relations between the two countries during his opening address. “The 4th Session of the JMC is another building block to propel our bilateral relations to greater heights,” he asserted, reaffirming Uganda’s commitment to fostering a cooperative relationship with Ethiopia.
The discussions at the JMC revolved around critical issues, including diplomatic consultations, transboundary water management, regional peace and security, cooperation in trade, energy, immigration, tourism, agriculture, and transport.
The meeting culminated in the signing of a bilateral Air Services Agreement, along with seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering diverse areas of cooperation.
