Ethiopian Ambassador Genet Teshome meets with Russian Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education
Ababa, February 28, 2025 (FMC) – Genet Teshome Jirru (PhD), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia met today, on 28 February 2025, with Mogilevsky Konstantin IIyich, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister briefed Ambassador Genet about the outcome of the recent visit of the Russian delegation led by Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Russian Federation Council, in an educational track.
The issues that need to be further considered by the two countries were also discussed at the meeting.
Mogilevsky also mentioned that more scholarship quotas to Ethiopian students would be added in the future considering the country’s demands in line with its human resource development objectives.
On his part, Ambassador Genet Teshome thanked the Deputy Minister for the Scholarship opportunities being provided for Ethiopian students by the Russian Federation and requested to increase the number of scholarships to be granted to Ethiopia, including swapping the current quota system into grant scholarship.
The cooperation between Ethiopia and the Russian Federation in political, economic and social spheres has now become qualitatively enhanced and more collaborations are needed to benefit from the two countries’ historical and enduring relations, Ambassador Genet underscored.
