Ethiopian Diplomatic Missions, Diaspora Communities Commemorate 129th Adwa Victory Day
Addis Ababa, March 2, 2025 (FMC) — Ethiopian embassies, diplomatic missions, and diaspora communities around the world have commemorated the 129th anniversary of Adwa Victory Day under the theme “Adwa: African Victory.”
Events organized at Ethiopian embassies and missions worldwide brought together diplomats, members of the Ethiopian diaspora, and friends of Ethiopia to honor this historic triumph.
During these gatherings, speakers highlighted the Adwa Victory’s significance as a symbol of African resilience and the fight for freedom, dignity, and sovereignty.
They also emphasized that Ethiopia’s sovereignty and national honor remain non-negotiable, urging the younger generation to uphold the legacy of Adwa by supporting national flagship projects such as the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Members of the Ethiopian diaspora reflected on how Adwa reshaped global perceptions of equality, independence, and resistance. They stressed the importance of preserving Ethiopia’s hard-won freedom and honoring the sacrifices of their ancestors.
They also called on the youth to carry forward the spirit of Adwa for future generations while advocating for Ethiopia’s development as a model for Africa. The need to combat poverty and strengthen national progress was also underscored.
The celebrations, marked by joy and unity, reaffirmed Adwa’s enduring legacy as a victory for all Black people and a source of national pride for Ethiopians worldwide.
