Ethiopian envoy stresses need for global synergy to curb impacts of climate change in agriculture
Addis Ababa, February 12, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopian Ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative to the UN Food and Agricultural Organization, World Food Program, and International Fund for Agricultural Development of Ethiopia, Demitu Hambissa, has called on the international community to strengthen cooperation to mitigating the impacts of climate change on agriculture and ensuring food security.
The 48th Session of the Governor Council of the International Fund for Agricultural (IFAD), which was held on 12 February 2025, began its session in Rome, Italy, with the participation of Heads of States, Ministers, Ambassadors from member states and heads of international institutions.
During the session, Ambassador Demitu stressed that Ethiopia has made significant progress in the agricultural sector in terms of ensuring food security and combating hunger.
In her speech, Demitu noted that climate change is having a significant impact on the work that countries are doing to achieve significant changes in the sector, and that the international community needs to strengthen cooperation.
She added that Ethiopia is making great strides in agriculture, particularly in the areas of wheat production and green legacy.
The two-day session is expected to discuss mainly review the activities of the organization during the year and recommend future priorities, according to the Ethiopian Embassy in Rome.
