Ethiopia’s economic reforms foster enhanced environment for Chinese investments: Ambassador

Addis Ababa, January 24, 2025 (FMC) – In a recent interview with Fana Media Corporation (FMC), Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Chen Hai, highlighted the robust relationship between China and Ethiopia, emphasizing their evolution into an all-weather strategic partnership that serves as a model for others.

Ambassador Chen noted that numerous agreements have been signed to strengthen their multifaceted collaboration, benefiting both nations. He reaffirmed China’s dedication to implementing these agreements and applauded Ethiopia’s ongoing economic and financial reforms, which he believes will create a more conducive environment for bilateral economic cooperation.

The Ambassador identified Ethiopia’s financial reforms as a significant milestone that will enhance trade and investment ties. He encouraged Chinese investors to explore the numerous opportunities in Ethiopia fortified by its ample workforce and potential in green energy.

He also pointed out the importance of the currency swap agreement between the two nations, as it plays a vital role in boosting trade and investment relations. Chen described Ethiopia as the “water tower of East Africa,” endowed with vast water resources crucial for green and sustainable energy production.

Recognizing Ethiopia’s progress in hydroelectricity generation, he expressed China’s willingness to share its expertise in harnessing water resources for energy production. The Ambassador concluded by reaffirming China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Ethiopia, particularly in the green energy sector.
