Ethiopia’s peaceful quest for access to a seaport receives backing from Sweden

Addis Ababa, February 7, 2025 (FMC) — Sweden has expressed its support for Ethiopia’s peaceful efforts to gain access to the sea. This was disclosed by Yasmine Eriksson, a member of the European nation’s parliament during a meeting with Ethiopian parliamentarians in Addis Ababa.

The meeting focused on discussing social, political, and economic issues between the two countries. During the discussion, Eriksson reiterated her country’s backing for Ethiopia’s quest for sea access.

The two sides also discussed the long-standing trade, investment, and education ties between the two countries, as well as Ethiopia’s ongoing reforms in the political, economic, and social sectors.

Dima Negewo, the Chairperson for Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee at the Ethiopian parliament, highlighted the efforts being undertaken by the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission to address any differences in the country peacefully.

According to him, the commission is working to identify various agendas arising from the community and come up with a common solution that will satisfy all parties involved.
