Media holds immense responsibility in shaping perceptions, enriching global dialogue — FMC CEO
Addis Ababa, April 21, 2025 (FMC) — At an international media seminar in China, Fana Media Corporation CEO Mr. Admasu Damtew emphasized that media organizations must serve as bridges between societies, providing accurate reporting and actively enriching global dialogue.
“We serve as bridges between societies, fostering accurate reporting, promoting cultural exchange, and enriching global dialogue,” he stated, calling for media leaders to take on the immense responsibility of shaping understanding and fostering mutual respect among diverse communities.
Mr. Admasu made these remarks during a high-level seminar organized by the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, where media leaders from across the globe gathered to discuss best practices, share challenges, and explore innovative solutions to address the evolving complexities of modern media.
The CEO highlighted that, in today’s information-driven world, media institutions have a vital role in shaping perceptions and influencing global narratives. “In an era where information shapes perceptions and influences narratives, media organizations hold an immense responsibility,” he remarked.
He stressed that this responsibility goes beyond simple news dissemination and calls for a proactive role in enriching international dialogue and connecting diverse cultures and communities.
Mr. Admasu pointed out the importance of collaboration and mutual learning in strengthening international media relations.
He praised the seminar as an invaluable platform for exchanging ideas and reaffirming commitments to integrity, transparency, and responsible journalism. “The discussions in this seminar will undoubtedly explore best practices, confront challenges, and present innovative solutions,” he said, emphasizing the need for global media leaders to work together in navigating the complexities of today’s media landscape.
Reflecting on his experiences in the provinces of Chongqing and Shanxi, Mr. Admasu lauded their rich historical and cultural heritage, as well as their role in China’s ongoing development. “It is a privilege to experience these regions and witness firsthand the deep-rooted traditions and progress that make them an integral part of China’s national identity,” he stated.
He also extended congratulations to the leaders of both provinces for their contributions to preserving cultural heritage while fostering development.
The CEO further noted that Ethiopia and China share a longstanding and multifaceted partnership that spans key sectors such as culture, trade, investment, infrastructure, education, and technology.
He underscored that this partnership has been strengthened by China’s Belt and Road Initiative, which has led to significant infrastructure projects in Ethiopia, including roads, railways, and industrial parks. These projects, he explained, have not only fueled economic growth but have also enhanced regional connectivity and created employment opportunities for many Ethiopians.
As the seminar drew to a close, Mr. Admasu reaffirmed Fana Media Corporation’s commitment to responsible journalism and its role in delivering high-quality content to serve audiences with integrity and excellence. “As representatives of party-affiliated media organizations, we are dedicated to embracing the principles of responsible journalism,” he said.
He concluded his speech by expressing sincere gratitude to the Chinese government for its hospitality and for fostering a space where media leaders could exchange knowledge and perspectives.
“May we all take full advantage of the insights and perspectives gained here to enhance our roles in shaping an interconnected and informed global community about China’s growth,” he remarked.
