Former athletics legend Sleshi Sihin becomes new president of EAF

Addis Ababa, December 22, 2024 (FMC) – Ethiopian retired long-distance runner. Sleshi Sihin, has been elected as the new president of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF), the Federation confirmed.

At the 28th regular session of the Federation, athlete Sleshi was elected as the president of the EAF for the next four years, succeeding another legendary athlete Derartu Tulu.

Following the election outcomes, Minister of Culture and Sports of Ethiopia, Ms. Shewit Shanka, has congratulated Sleshi and expressed her best wishes to him during his tenure as the president of the Federation.

During his running career, Sleshi Sihin has earned numerous medals representing his country, including silver medals in the 10,000 metres at both the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as at the 2005 World Championships and 2007 World Championships as well as a bronze medal in 2003..

His appointment marks a new era for Ethiopian athletics, as an athlete with firsthand experience steps into leadership to guide the nation’s athletics sports future.
